I’ve met a lot of different personalities in my lifetime.  it’s interesting to meet such a diverse group from each account I’ve handled.  But, something that is obvious is the age difference in different call centers.

If you go to the Asian outsourced call centers, you will find a lot of young people aged 18-30.  The managers are very young and despite of their lack of wisdom, the young people grow up faster.  With in house call centers or at least those that are European and American in culture, you will find the age increases, up till 50.

The question here is how will this gap impact operations in any call center?  Maybe just in terms of mature or experience in life, but never professionally.  Confused already?  Don’t be.  I’ve noticed that those who are younger are more aggressive and determined to get promoted and are open to new challenges.  Because it is in their nature to be curious and find something new all the time, they would rather keep on moving, they get bored easily and are very impatient.  For those that have been in this life longer, they take one step at a time and look at everything in all angles.  They are more secured with what they have in life and the call center job is something they want to learn more of – in their own pace.  But, this will also mean that they have more input to put into the business due to their past experiences in another industry.

Don’t get too caught up with the age gap in this industry.  Because believe it or not, this makes it more balanced and usually there is harmony between the age groups.  Everybody learns faster, which is why the industry has been among the fastest growing in the world.
